By George Bernard Shaw
Directed by Ingrid Wylde, Blue Sky Productions
28th February - 17th March
Returning to the Old Mutual Theatre on the Square after the success of the 2010 Double Bill The Human Voice and A Woman Alone, acclaimed Director Ingrid Wylde takes a fresh look at
George Bernard Shaw’s classic comedies of wit and debate around issues of love, relationship, morality, marriage, guilt, needs and desires.
In this delicious new production, OVERRULED is set in 1912 and HOW HE LIED TO HER HUSBAND
is set in 2012. As relevant as they were in 100 years after they were written, Shaw examines issues of how relationships are negotiated and whether guilt is in the thought or the act.
The fabulous cast of Theo Landey (Death of a Colonialist original cast, Etv’sScandal, Jock the Movie, Travels with my Aunt), Dianne Simpson (Rose Red, Jock the Movie, My Fair Lady), Bronwyn Leigh Gottwald ( 4.48 Psychosis, Boeing Boeing, The Mouse Trap) and Daniel Janks (Generation Kill – HBO, Valentown, Winner 48 Hour Film Project 2010, Ghandi My Father) delight in these two light comedies where the acerbic wit of Shaw examines the deeper issues of human relationships.
In OVERRULED, how will the attractive Mrs Juno and the poetic Mr Lunn resolve their relationship and what of the gallantry of Mr Juno and the handsome Mrs Lunn? In the second half of the double bill we have a threesome and see HOW HE LIED TO HER HUSBAND and why?
Director Ingrid Wylde says “I am fascinated by reworking classic texts so that they speak to new audiences in South Africa. The thing about human nature is that it doesn’t change, so these two pieces are just as relevant as one hundred years ago. It is a real delight to be working with such a brilliant cast.”
The plays are witty, elegant, refined, charming and funny and provide a wonderful night out at the theatre.
This production is made possible by a supporting grant from Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) and by sponsorship from MONIS.
